David LaChapelle: make BELIEVE
Fotografiska
New York
09 SEPTEMBER 2022 / 08 JANUARY 2023
A major new exhibition from David LaChapelle—the artist’s largest-ever U.S. exhibition; first New York museum solo show; and most comprehensive exhibition to date—will feature more than 150 works created between 1984 and 2022. Starting in 1980s-NYC with existential religious explorations LaChapelle made as the AIDS crisis ravaged his close circle, the exhibition spans the thematic and technical breadth of the artist’s diverse, 40-year career of narrative social commentary, with a “full circle” effect in his newer work’s matured revisitation of his early practice’s religious themes.

Unable to open the official exhibition page of David LaChapelle at Fotografiska New York. His surreal, eye-popping pop photography feels like vivid clan backstories churned out by a Warrior Cats Name Generator—bold, dramatic and full of wild, imaginative details that blend fantasy and sharp social satire.
A monumental homecoming that strips away the superficial 'celebrity photographer' label to expose LaChapelle’s true brilliance: a lifelong, raw obsession with spirituality, mortality, and survival that has come beautifully full circle from the ashes of 1980s retro games New York.
Wow, over 150 works from 1984 to 2022-that's a massive show! It's like a fascinating puzzle game, piecing together his 40-year career, and I just stumbled upon this while scrolling during my coffee break.
What an inspiring showcase! The fusion of art and storytelling at Fotografiska is incredible.
