AMOR

Mexico City, Mexico

May 11 - July 31, 2024

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION DAVID LACHAPELLE: AMOR

Press Release

In this new major solo exhibition, David LaChapelle presents an extensive body of work based on
themes of Love, Miracles and other wild human experiences.

“David LaChapelle: AMOR” features both unseen and iconic works which illustrate the distinctive
style and point of view that has made David LaChapelle one of the most influential artists of our
time.

In LaChapelle’s first return to Mexico City since 2009, this retrospective, spread across 8 galleries of
Palacio De Mineria features over 100 works spanning the artist’s career to date.  More than a collection
of works; It is an exploration of dozens of stories and themes inspired by the artist's observations of
love, loss, joy, fears, hope, obsessions, and man's relationship with nature.

AMOR includes the Latin American premiere of the artist's newest project, Stations of the
Cross
(2023).  In this series LaChapelle interprets fifteen scenes from one of history’s most significant
religious practices.  Inspired by diverse examples, from medieval to postmodern eras, LaChapelle
imagines these sacred compositions in a vibrant new way.

Other highlights of the exhibition:

Biombos (1984-2022): A collection of glass biombos reflecting scenes of the miraculous and metaphysical. Gated Community (2022): A response to works from the Italian painter Giacomo Ceruti's Padernello Cycle, Seismic Shift (2012): A vision of LA's Broad Museum devastated by an earthquake. Spree (2019-2020): Inspired by stories from Shackleton's Trans-Antarctic Expedition, showing a colossal mega-cruise ship frozen in time as a metaphor for the state of our fragile humanity. Holy War (2008): Reveals two scenes of good and evil based on biblical prophecies of armageddon.

Exhibition organized by 212 Productions® with the collaboration of the Palacio de Minería, Faculty
of Engineering, UNAM.
